How to delete your account
You have two ways to request deletion.
Option 1 — From inside the app (instant)
- Open the Board & Pieces app on your iOS or Android device.
- Sign in with the account you want to delete.
- Tap the Profile tab in the bottom navigation.
- Scroll down and tap Settings.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Deletion begins immediately. The app signs you out and triggers the server-side removal described below.
Option 2 — By e-mail
If you can no longer sign in (for example, you removed the app or lost access to your Apple ID / Google account), send an e-mail to support@boardandpieces.com from the address that owns the account. Include:
- The e-mail address associated with your Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google account.
- The display name you used in the app (so we can confirm the right account if multiple match).
- A statement that you want your account deleted.
We respond within 30 days, and usually within 72 hours. We will reply to confirm the deletion has been carried out.
What we delete
When your account is deleted, the following data is permanently removed from our active systems:
- Your user profile (display name, profile photo, country flag).
- Your sign-in identifier (the Apple ID / Google account link) — you can create a fresh account afterwards if you choose.
- Your e-mail address (received from the sign-in provider).
- Your game history (moves, results, ELO ratings).
- Your group and venue memberships, ratings, and credits.
- Your tutorial progress.
- Your push-notification tokens.
- Any in-game chat messages still on our servers (most are deleted automatically when a game ends — see our Privacy Policy §3.4).
- Any approximate-location presence records (these expire within 15 minutes anyway — see Privacy Policy §3.3).
- Your friends, friend-request, and block lists, and the corresponding entries on other users that reference you.
What we're required to retain
A small amount of data must be kept after deletion to comply with Turkish tax and commercial law, plus Apple's and Google's billing records:
- Purchase records (subscription & credit transactions): retained for ten (10) years from the transaction date, as required by Turkish tax law. These records contain the transaction ID, amount, and product purchased — they no longer link to a usable account.
- Moderation snapshots: if a message you sent was reported and is under review, the snapshot is kept for up to 90 days from the report date, then deleted. If legal proceedings require longer retention, we keep only what is strictly necessary.
- Server access logs (IP addresses on incoming requests): kept for 30 days for abuse triage, then deleted. These rotate independently of your account status.
- Backup snapshots: routine database backups expire within 30 days. After that window, your data is irrecoverable.
The retained records above cannot be used to re-identify you for any purpose other than the legal obligation that triggered the retention.
Cancelling your subscription
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active Premium subscription, because subscriptions are managed by Apple and Google, not by us. To cancel:
- iOS / Apple: open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Board & Pieces, then Cancel Subscription.
- Android / Google Play: open the Google Play app → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Board & Pieces, then Cancel subscription.
Cancelling stops the next renewal; access to Premium continues until the end of the current paid period. Refund requests must be made through the store that processed the purchase — see Terms §8.
